GDevelop Performance Settings and Optimization Habits

Performance work is most useful when it targets a measured project bottleneck. Instead of changing many settings at once, identify scenes or systems that become slow and simplify them one layer at a time.

Reduce unnecessary repeated work

Review events that run continuously and ask whether every condition needs to be checked every frame. Some logic can be limited to a specific state, scene, timer or interaction instead of running all the time.

Practical checkpoint

Likewise, remove inactive objects and temporary debug logic that are no longer needed.

Keep visual effects intentional

Large images, many overlapping effects and heavy visual layers can increase rendering work. Use assets at appropriate dimensions and test effects on the weakest device you expect to support.

Why this matters

Optimization should preserve the visual hierarchy of the game rather than simply removing every effect.

Measure after each change

Change one performance-related system, test again and note the result. This makes it easier to identify which adjustment actually helped and which changes can be reversed.

Next-step habit

A stable baseline scene is especially useful when comparing project revisions.

Recommended next step

Apply the guide to a copy of a small project first. If you are changing setup or download files, keep the current working project separate and return to the Download section only when you understand the file type you need.
